late night cranberry orange scones
was challenged by the brits i live with to make scones worthy of accompanying tea.
my response: scones made from 11:30pm to 1am.
dried cranberries and lots of orange zest boost the flavor here. I didnt have buttermilk, so i substitued with 1 c. milk + 1 teaspoon lemon juice. also didnt have baking powder, so i substitued 1/4 t. baking soda + more lemon juice (you are supposed to replace 1/2 c. of the liquid with same amount of buttermilk, but that wasn't an option here...).
they turned out quite well, although i bit dark (i think the oven was too hot).
